Void Mosaics are as much a proof-of-concept as they are conversational art pieces imbued with Web 3 Gaming utility. These digital collectibles can be used to onboard crypto-shy and possibly even crypto-phobic collectors, investors, and gamers to virtually any project.
Created as a digital access pass to exclusive game modes, secret missions, and player rewards for ' first-foray into Web 3 Gaming, Seven Archons: Aeon's Ascent, Void Mosaics were born from trying to create a 3d representation of a Bitmap for use in the Astral Assemblage Multiverse.
Bitcoin still lacks smart contracts and a Virtual Machine to interpret and enforce smart contracts. But that isn't going to stop me from attaching in-game utility to the digital collectibles I create for Seven Archons: Aeon's Ascent. Void Mosaics are enhanced 3d objects in the sense that we can embed metadata inside the 3d object itself that triggers in-game access to exclusive benefits, missions, game modes and player rewards.
Conceptually speaking, a Void Mosaic is a philosophical approach and pseudo-framework to building for Web 3 and the Metaverse(s) of Bitcoin with the intent of enriching both the Owner's experience and the Ecosystem as a whole.
Ahem. Focus!
Through the application of a backend compression pipeline the Void Mosaic application will be able to optimize and return a compressed, virtually lossless (thanks in part to the primitive cube shapes that make it up) 3d asset well under the 380kb maximum file size limit, making them compatible with Bitcoin Ordinals.
The inspiration behind creating a digital asset such as these Void Mosaics was to enable me to bring Web 3 fun and functionality to my game by way of cool collectibles that you can do fun stuff with. Simple as that. But here's the rub... A lot of the people I've shown my video game to aren't into crypto and some are downright crypto-phobes, so the instant I mention Bitcoin or Blockchain Integration they take off running.
Well I still want my crypto-phobic users to have that Web 3 Experience... How do?
Here's what I came up with... You embed metadata into the asset itself before allowing the user to claim it. When the user later comes to your application, you allow them to import their downloaded asset that can be used to trigger specific functionality within your application. Whether you go on-chain only or take a hybridized approach like we're doing at Astral Assemblage Games, you can securely grant asset owners special permissions for your project, application or game without the requirement to use crypto.
Theoretically, this approach works not only with 3d objects but also images, video, audio, and html. Essentially, anywhere you can stuff some JSON, you can imbue your collectible with claimable benefits.
I approached this project with the intention of leading with utility. The purpose of the Void Mosaic project is to develop a repeatable framework for onboarding Web 3 holdouts into our humble little Video Game Multiverse. And utility - in my mind, at least - is where all the satisfaction of playing in the Web 3 space comes from.
The Void Mosaics are downloadable and inscribable. The act of inscribing something is committing something to be indelible. It feels cool to do. I don't think non-builder types often have cause to create their own ordinals. Why not inspire them to give it a try?
The greatest utility you can provide a user in the web 3 space is the power of choice. In the case of the Void Mosaics, the first choice a user gets to make after deciding to explore our world enables them to lean in or lean back from Crypto. Download or Inscribe it doesn't matter. They can take their Void Mosaic home with them and we can still provide the utility.
Void Mosaics take their name from a story I've been writing set in my game's universe known as the Material World. They are grand cosmic constructs created to lure and ensnare the vile beings from the Void beyond the material world that are wreaking havoc throughout the game's central universe.
In Seven Archons: Aeon's Ascent, when a player imports their Void Mosaic from their wallet or via an upload, they are activating the in-game perks associated with their specific Void Mosaic. That could mean trait-based reward multipliers (the more rare, the higher the rewards for defeating Void Creatures.) Each Void Mosaic will entitle a player to a special "Deathmatch" mode they can play once daily for stellar rewards above and beyond what they might get in standard Aeon's Ascent campaign matches. Finally - the metadata embedded can trigger a procedurally generated mission storyline in-game that is unique to that Void Mosaic.
It is my hope that these Void Mosaics stand tall at the crossroads of art, technology, and gaming, embodying a pioneering approach to digital collectibles. By harnessing the power of Bitcoin Block data, these mosaics are not just visually captivating art pieces; they are gateways to exclusive experiences within the Astral Assemblage Games universe, particularly Seven Archons: Aeon’s Ascent. From their mathematical genesis to their practical application in the metaverse, Void Mosaics are designed to enchant, engage, and onboard a diverse audience into the realm of Web 3 gaming—regardless of their familiarity with crypto.
Through innovative use of 3D visualization, compression technology, and embedded metadata, Void Mosaics transcend traditional digital collectibles, offering tangible in-game utility and a bridge between the crypto-curious and the burgeoning world of blockchain gaming. They are a testament to the potential of blending creativity with technology to create immersive, interactive experiences that enrich both the player's journey and the broader digital ecosystem.
As we delve into the goals of this project, it's clear that Void Mosaics are more than just a novel concept; they are a step towards a more inclusive, engaging, and artistically rich digital future. They embody our commitment to pushing the boundaries of what's possible in Web 3 gaming, aiming to create a universe where every player, regardless of their stance on cryptocurrency, can find value, enjoyment, and a sense of belonging.
Each Void Mosaic is crafted by transforming Bitcoin Block data into a visual spectacle. Inspired by the , we start by analyzing transaction data and mapping it onto a —a visually striking method that illustrates how individual parts contribute to a whole. From there, we elevate this concept from 2D to 3D, plotting transactions within a cube to assign each a distinct width, depth, and height. To add a layer of artistic flair and depth, I tweaked the formula for the z-axis, introducing a creative twist to the visualization. This blend of mathematics and artistry gives birth to the unique aesthetic of a Void Mosaic.
Void Mosaics are generated in-browser at the time they are requested. These are not pre-made assets that came out of a render pipeline and uploaded to the web. Most of you will type in a block-height in the and hit that "View" button and at that instant, you become the catalyst for the creation of something beautiful, shiny and new. You will bring forth order from chaos, and in all likelihood, you will be the first to lay eyes on that specific work of art. For a moment it is yours and yours alone.
The average bitcoin block contains ~2900 transactions on average. The cuboid-makeup of a Void Mosaic means there are 6-sides to every transaction in the block. 2900 times 6 sides on each transaction is well... That's a lot of polygons! The uncompressed raw 3d object, when exported using , weighs in anywhere from 12mb-16mb in size. Way too big for inscription on Bitcoin which has a very very modest ~380kb file size limit for Ordinal Inscriptions.
